Wall Units and Headboards

Head boards and wall units don’t help you sleep any better, rather they define the bed. While flat head boards save on floor space, they don’t offer the functional service that bookshelf head boards and wall units provide. Head boards are your chance to express your style and emphasize décor. The flat head board can be a simple, basic panel of wood or an elaborate puzzle.

Custom Wall Units

Mauve-wash Pine Wall Unit

This Pine bedroom wall unit has a mauve wash and wooden handles. The two side piers are six-foot high have a combination of doors, drawers and full extension bedside tray – think of breakfast in bed! Spanning the top is a bridge with three recessed lights on a dimmer switch.

The three panel mirror on the bed unit echoes the mirrors on the formal dresser. The mirrors and mauve finish allow for the amount of furniture while keeping a light and spacious bedroom.

A pair of simply southwestern styled headboards

These two beds are housed in a bed-n-breakfast in Taos, NM and reflect my personal take on a simple and clean southwest style.

Wormy maple headboard

This king-size waterbed, done in Wormy Maple, also reflects a southwest style. It also included matching night stands.

wormy maple pedestal bed and accompanying headboard

This conventional queen size mattress is framed and accented with maple wood and walnut trim.  Two extended night stands provide storage with drawers and bedside surface area.

With a 12” high profile pedestal and a 10” mattress, this bed height is perfect for easy sitting with knee-height bend.  Of course the pedestal height can be customized to your needs.  King size beds have a pedestal foot door, good for storing long and awkward items such as skis, rifles, and fishing poles.

These clients chose wormy maple to match other furniture they already owned. It features a raised panel headboard and four spacious drawers in the pedestal section with rustic style pulls. There is also a long storage area available from the foot of the bed.

Also done with raised panels, this Alder headboard and bedroom set features crown molding to hide a strip of lights.

On wall opposite the bed, is this wall unit, spanning ten feet. Also done in alder with raised panels and a crown molding, it houses a sewing machine, a surger, a material storage cabinet (54″ bolts of fabric), a pull-out bench, an entertainment center, and a tallboy.

Bookshelf and Pillowstop Headboards

Maple headboard with Walnut Trim

The two doors are at a slight angle, with a piano hinge This allows you to sit up in bed propped up with a pillow behind you – very comfortable. The example in the picture is in Maple with Walnut trim, exemplifying the split center feature. With a king size head board, this space allows for an alarm clock without detracting from the function of the doors.

30 years later, a new customer wanted headboard with reading lights done in Alder with a dark Walnut stain to match their bureau. Instead of a sweet 8 track player, this features space for a digital control center for the room.

Featuring low profile sides, this frame is designed for a conventional mattress. It does feature a small lip to keep the mattress from sliding around. It also features full length drawers that slide out to full extension with finger pulls.
