Oneofakind By Watersong Furniture
The two primary reasons customers come to me are the solid
quality of my workmanship and their need for a unique piece of furniture
that can’t be found already made – thus, “custom” made furniture!
Nowhere else does this manifest itself so true as in the following
examples of One of A Kind Furniture. Each item has its customer’s
story.
This guy remembered his grandfather’s liquor cabinet and
wanted me to recreate the memory as well as the function. Solid
Oak with a special walnut stain and brass hardware add to the
ageless yet antique look. The lift-lid and drop-down front are
on piano hinges with adjustable dampeners, creating an
ergo-dynamic dry bar. The tall base stores his liquor and
Wedgwood collection of crystal.

This
customer liked the option of randomly rearranging her wall
unit. Remember the game Tetris©? These six “L”
shaped Oak cubicles have Padauk trim. They can be laid flat or
turned vertical to create a different form and function. Light
to lift and easy to change.

This “rural” customer wanted a cat-house for her fourteen
felines. Inside the lower row of Maple doors are five litter
boxes accessible to the cats from the back and to the owner (for
changing the litter) from the front. The kitty-cubicles have
9-inch diameter holes for cats to sashay through. Melamine was
used on top as well as on the pull-out litter trays for easy
clean up. At four feet tall and eight feet long, the customer
wanted the unit on wheels for cleaning. Seriously, when you
walk into this house, you don’t smell the cats.

The partner of the feline lover wanted a personalized
work-station for his stained glass work. The two functionally
different units match, sitting side-by-side. The work-station
countertop is made from therma-fused Melamine for durability and
heavy use. The lower valance of the top wall cabinet houses a
bright light for work-space illumination. I framed his favorite
stained glass work for the top two doors. What a marriage of
practicality and art!

In the front foyer on this upper-end
home, I made this ramp with railing for a customer just entering
a convalescent stage. The dark Redwood provides an elegant,
dramatic and graceful entry into the home.

Even the garage can benefit from custom design furniture –
done in wormy Maple and Melamine, these two pieces organized an
entirely inaccessible garage mess – he stored his sports
equipment, from golf clubs
to tennis rackets....

Blanket Boxes,
Cedar Chests and Bancos
Whether for the
foot of the bed or front foyer, these storage units hold a lot of bulky
items. I Normally use piano hinges and lid dampers in the construction
of these custom built boxes.
This
blanket box extends the full width of the king-size bed. Done in
Pine with a southwest style and mauve wash, the customer asked
me to upholster the top for comfort and matching fabric.

I made this
traditional Cedar Chest for my niece – 20 years later, she still
cherishes and uses it. I captured the Cedar with an Oak, top and
bottom for durability – the scent of Cedar anchored with the
soundness of Oak.

This Walnut
accent, this Maple blanket box fits well in its East
Mountain home. The clean lines of the box provide double-duty
as a sitting Banco and for gazing out the window at scenes of
nature.

Another
welcoming storage banco offers a herring-bone design on the
front. The top lids open up for wood storage. A marine-spar
varnish was used on this outdoor piece for durability of finish.

Done in
Alder, this 4-door banco is used for sitting and taking off
muddy shoes. It also serves as storage for the front foyer – a
welcoming and functional piece of furniture.
